Challenge
Responsible for project management and lead instructional design of Microsoft Windows NT 4.x Planing and Implementation e-learning course (over eight hours of content, simulations, and exercises). Lead five instructional designers in course design in Silicon Valley, California. Assure that production of learning course at brand new facility in Calcutta, India meets design documents and quality standards. Bring product to market under tight deadlines to meet optimum sales window.
Solution
Two primary strategies were utilized to meet the challenge. The first was to practice explicit and regular communication. This communication took the forms of detailed design documents, design standards, production standards, project plans, regular meetings, and several key face to face interactions. The second strategy was to implement a reward system tying an individual contributor's reward to the success of the team as a whole.
Result
The course was launched successfully on schedule an in time to realize the maximum sales window. New processes were defined during the course of the project to allow for the reduction in the overall project development cycles. The entire design and production teams received the maximum project bonus.
